As a Courtesy Clerk at Safeway, you are often the first and last point of contact for our valued customers, playing a vital role in creating a positive shopping experience. This position focuses on providing exceptional customer service and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. Your responsibilities include assisting customers with bagging groceries, carrying items to their vehicles, retrieving shopping carts, and ensuring the parking lot and store premises are tidy and safe. You will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of checkout areas and assisting with other tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the store.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide friendly and efficient customer service, including greeting customers with a smile and offering assistance.
• Bag groceries accurately and efficiently, ensuring fragile items are handled with care and bags are not overloaded.
• Assist customers with carrying their groceries to their vehicles, ensuring their comfort and convenience.
• Retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot and other areas of the store, ensuring an adequate supply is available for customers.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the parking lot, entrance areas, and other designated outside spaces, removing debris and ensuring a safe environment.
• Keep checkout areas clean and organized, including wiping down counters and ensuring bagging supplies are stocked.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and organized sales floor by picking up litter, straightening merchandise, and returning misplaced items.
• Respond to customer inquiries and direct them to the appropriate store personnel or departments.
• Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, security, and customer service.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by store management to support the overall functioning of the store.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service with a positive and helpful attitude.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
• Good communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing and walking.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds.
• Repetitive motion, including bending, reaching, and twisting.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions when retrieving carts.

Schedules:

Courtesy Clerks may work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on store needs. Flexibility in scheduling is appreciated.
