Cake Decorator

Description:

The Cake Decorator at Safeway is responsible for creating visually appealing and delicious cakes and other baked goods for our customers. This role involves the artistic design and decoration of cakes according to customer requests or established standards, ensuring high-quality presentation and customer satisfaction. The Cake Decorator also plays a key role in maintaining the bakery department's appearance and adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines. This position requires creativity, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Decorate cakes, cupcakes, and other baked goods with frosting, icing, fondant, and other decorative elements according to customer specifications or established designs.
• Consult with customers to understand their cake design preferences, including themes, colors, and special requests.
• Prepare icings, fillings, and other decorating materials as needed, ensuring proper consistency and quality.
• Maintain an organized and clean work area, adhering to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Ensure that all decorated items are displayed attractively and are properly labeled with pricing and ingredient information.
• Monitor inventory levels of decorating supplies and inform management when replenishment is needed.
• Operate and maintain bakery equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with other bakery tasks as needed, such as preparing basic baked goods or packaging items for sale.
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing customer inquiries and fulfilling orders accurately and efficiently.
• Follow established recipes and production guidelines to ensure consistent product quality.
• Collaborate with other bakery team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations within the department.
• Stay updated on current cake decorating trends and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Previous experience in cake decorating or a related culinary field is preferred.
• Knowledge of various cake decorating techniques, including frosting application, piping, fondant work, and design elements.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and instructions accurately.
• Strong artistic and creative skills with an eye for detail and design.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry items up to a certain weight (e.g., bags of flour, buckets of icing).
• Frequent use of hands and fingers for decorating and handling tools.
• Ability to stand and move around the bakery for the duration of the shift.

Work Environment:

The work environment is typically in a retail bakery setting. May involve working near ovens and other bakery equipment. Must adhere to safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
