Sanitation Worker

Description:

The Sanitation Worker at Safeway is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the store. This role involves a variety of tasks aimed at upholding high standards of hygiene and preventing contamination. The Sanitation Worker plays a crucial part in ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers and a healthy working environment for all employees. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow procedures, and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks throughout the store, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors; cleaning restrooms; emptying trash and recycling bins; and wiping down surfaces.
• Ensure the proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment used in various departments, such as bakery equipment, deli slicers, and meat processing machinery, following established protocols.
• Maintain the cleanliness of customer areas, including shopping carts, baskets, and checkout lanes.
• Clean and sanitize spills and other messes promptly and efficiently to prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.
• Follow established procedures for the handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals and waste materials.
• Adhere to all safety and sanitation guidelines and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Monitor and maintain adequate levels of cleaning supplies and inform management when restocking is necessary.
• Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of storage areas and loading docks.
• Report any maintenance or repair needs related to cleaning equipment or facilities to the appropriate personnel.
• Collaborate with other store personnel to ensure a clean and organized store environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the store.

Minimum Qualifications:

• No prior experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the position, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and their safe use is a plus.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, walk throughout the store, bend, stoop, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and use cleaning equipment and supplies. Exposure to cleaning chemicals may occur.

Schedules:

Flexibility in scheduling is required, as shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on store needs.
